Career opportunities from studying Mathematics:

Key Stage 3 (Yr. 7, 8 and 9)

Students follow the Mathematics National Curriculum in Key Stage 3 and are grouped by ability. Work is differentiated to support and challenge all students, and schemes of work are designed to enable students to develop the skills required for the reformed GCSE syllabus. Students will study the following units:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio, proportion, rates of change
  • Geometry and measure
  • Probability
  • Statistics

Students are also regularly required to assess their own learning and review progress towards their targets. Problem solving activities including worded problems are regularly used throughout the curriculum. One piece of homework is set weekly on ‘Show My Homework’ linked to the topic studied in class.

Key Stage 4 (Yr. 10 &11)

Students continue to receive 4/5 lessons per week. We are following the new Edexcel GCSE specification and skills required for the new GCSE are embedded into all schemes of work.

Students will study the following units:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio, proportion, rates of change
  • Geometry and measure
  • Probability
  • Statistics

Students are regularly assessed using GCSE criteria and problem solving tasks.  Two individual or one longer piece of homework is set weekly on ‘Show My Homework’ linked to the topic studied in class and examination style questions.

School Resources

We enter students for the Junior and Intermediate UK Mathematical Trust (UKMT) Mathematics events including the individual and team challenges.
We run a weekly MyMaths club which is very popular with Key Stage 3 students and extra homework support club. We have form time numeracy that is taught once a week which you can see here:

We provide targeted intervention through one to one tutoring, afterschool, weekend and holiday revision sessions at various points during the academic year.

Additional Resource Websites

I am delighted to welcome you to the website of Onslow St Audrey’s School.  As the Interim Executive Headteacher, I am fortunate to be working with a committed, professional and hard-working leadership team supported by a highly experienced and skilled governing body.  We are ambitious for the school and this is an exciting time for Onslow as we drive to improve teaching and learning and outcomes for all students whatever their starting point.

Our dedicated teaching staff are focused on delivering engaging and challenging lessons and we encourage our students to participate in the many extra-curricular opportunities on offer. We take great pride in the relationships we build and this was recognised in the most recent Ofsted inspection (February 2017), when the inspectors commented on how polite, respectful and well behaved the students are.

This in an interesting and exciting time in the history of the school as we are about to begin a significant multi-million pound refurbishment and building programme of our sports, science, business, ICT, sixth form and library facilities.

This website can only provide a glimpse of what we have on offer and I invite you to visit the school to see us in action.

Best wishes,

David Croston

Executive Headteacher
